Mac OS X is a completely redesigned implementation of the Macintosh operating system based on BSD UNIX. The major, central part of Mac OS X is Darwin - a collection of technologies that have been integrated by Apple. The lowest (most fundamental) layer of Darwin is its Kernel Environment which consists of XNU, the Mac OS X kernel, and different kernel extensions.

Safari is a leading Browser incorporated in the Mac OS X operating system (and includes support for additional Operating Systems). Safari is based on the open source webkit project which in turn powers many of today’s leading browsers, from cell phone browsers to PC browsers such as Google chrome.
